Wi-Fi Hotspots With Light Bulbs?

The light bulb may be the future way of wireless technology. A team of engineering researchers from Boston University College is working on low power LEDs which could utilize an optical communication system to carry data wireless. The basic idea is to switches LEDs on and off rapidly, data transmission could be made via imperceptible, yet undoubtedly brain scrambling, flickering patterns ( Flickering light in patterns enables data transmission without any noticeable change in room lighting ), and each light would be its own network entry point at speeds of 1 to 10 Mbps.
The concept is said more secure than current Rf techniques because it requires the linked devices be in the line-of -sight. The lights cannot penetrate opaque surfaces such as walls. The method also draw less energy than conventional radios. Its not just laptops or computers, electronics devices as iPhone, TV, radio an thermostat could all communicate with you when you walked in room just flipping the wall light switch without the usual cluster of wires, said professor Thomas Little.
